Now – December 2022 Challenge

No Buy Fabric Challenge: The Nifty Thrifty Club

You are invited to join the Nifty Thrifty Club – a new goal for 2022 – a No-Buy Challenge – in which members commit to using only fabric in their stash for the calendar year of 2022 except for specific exemptions. The exemptions (considered legal purchases) are batting; backing fabric; fabric for backgrounds requiring three or more yards; specific project requirements (i. e. panel for Guild panel workshop, one block wonder workshop, required kits for workshops); and using gift cards. All members are encouraged to participate in this goal, but to formally participate, there will be a buy-in to the challenge of one fat quarter from your stash; if you “fall off the wagon (make an ‘illegal’ purchase), please send in an additional “penalty” FQ for each occasion. All the fat quarters (FQs) will be a raffle prize at the end of the year for those members that enrolled in the challenge. You can join anytime during the year. There won’t be any monitoring of your efforts to meet this goal, just the honor system. Janice Boutotte will collect the FQs at meetings or other activities and will maintain the list of members who have formally joined the challenge. Before you can get a FQ to Janice, you may email her at jboutotte999@gmail.com to let her know you are enrolling in the challenge.

To help you meet this goal and to promote Guild interaction , if you need fabric for a project (even for legal purchases), try trading or bartering for the needed fabric with other members, for example, trading yardage for yardage or yardage for services or other items. Messages for wanted items can be requested on the Guild’s Facebook page – MTQ Group Chat (if you aren’t a member just request to join).  Janice Boutotte will also coordinate a list of items that are needed to post in the newsletter – just email her the wanted item(s) by the 25th of each month. If another member has the wanted item and is willing to trade it, she will contact the person listing the item to work out a deal.
